Since his family doesn't really live in a proper residential establishment (like a village or town), I imagine they are somewhat like barbarians or wild/native people, thus the body paint and fur-based attire. I also quite like the idea of his hairstyle being a tradition among Growlithes and Arcanines, so it's kind of customary to style it that way. His Arcanine mother also has the same hairstyle. The fur cape is from his Typhlosion father. If you look at a lot of Typhlosion gijinkas, they almost always have that fur jacket or something on them. I'm quite happy with how everything turned out in the end, seriously. C:
